Zimmerman Tree Service partners with the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation to give away 1,000 free trees to schools & non-profit organizations

First 100 Free Trees are Given to the Marshall Foundation For Planting in Wellington.

(West Palm Beach, FL – August 2, 2007) Zimmerman Tree Service the largest locally owned tree and lawn maintenance company in Palm Beach County, and the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation, which champions the restoration and preservation of the greater Everglades ecosystem, today announced the launch of LEAF YEAR 2008, a campaign to give away 1,000 free trees to local schools and nonprofit organizations between now and the next national Arbor Day (April 25, 2008).

The campaign was announced at the Marshall Foundation’s Annual Summer Intern Graduation Luncheon that was held today at the National Croquet Center in West Palm Beach.

To kick-off the LEAF YEAR 2008 campaign, Michael Zimmerman, founder and president of Zimmerman Tree Service, announced that the first 100 free trees would be given to the Marshall Foundation, which intends to plant them in Wellington.

Zimmerman Tree Service is proud to partner with the Marshall Foundation on this campaign to give-away and plant a thousand new trees throughout Palm Beach County,” said Michael Zimmerman. “At a time when the Greening of the world is more important than ever, this is our way to say thanks to our customers and friends while helping to make a small but positive environmental impact right here at home.

Trees produce oxygen and clean the air we breathe. Trees reduce energy consumption and increase property values. They make our county more beautiful and serve as a natural habitat for wildlife,” he added. “Certainly, everyone at both Zimmerman Tree Service and the Marshall Foundation share an extraordinary commitment to the importance of planting trees.

We’re so happy to be a part of this exciting project,” said Arthur R. Marshall Foundation Executive Director Josette Kaufman. “Mr. Zimmerman’s generous contribution of trees to our community will enrich the natural environment and help achieve the Marshall Foundation’s mission of planting trees to restore South Florida’s native ecosystem.

Most, but not all, of the free trees will be seedlings. Examples of species that will be available are …. (Zimmerman to Supply List of Trees). Planting instructions and growing advice will also be provided.

Through the LEAF YEAR 2008 campaign, local schools (either public or private) and nonprofit organizations can request anywhere from 1 to 100 free trees by submitting a simple 1-page application form. The forms can be downloaded from either www.zimmermantreeservice.com or www.artmarshall.org, or they can be requested by emailing gary@pr-bs.net or by writing to LEAF YEAR 2008, c/o PR-BS, Inc., 9735 Tavernier Drive, Boca Raton, Florida 33496. No purchase or membership is required to apply for free trees.

Applications can be submitted any time between now and February 29, 2008. Application forms will be reviewed on a regular basis by a committee consisting of: Ira Brichta, marketing guru; Josette Kaufman, executive director of the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation; Tara Pregnolato of The Palm Beach Post; and Michael Zimmerman, president of Zimmerman Tree Service. The selection of free trees recipients will be solely at the discretion of this committee.

Once a month, between August 2007 and April 2008, Zimmerman Tree Service will announce the names of the schools and nonprofit organizations whose Application Form/request for free trees is being granted. When a request for free trees is granted by the judging committee, the potential recipient will be contacted by Zimmerman Tree Service to set up a meeting with an arborist to discuss details such as the best kind of trees to plant, the date the free trees will be received, the number of volunteers needed to plant the trees, how the trees will be maintained going forward, etc.

About the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation

Founded in 1998, the Marshall Foundation has three goals:

  1. Restoring original plant life and water flow patterns to the greater Everglades ecosystem.

  2. Educating young people and the public about Everglades ecology.

  3. Delivering the message of restoration to as many people as possible through comprehensive public outreach programs.

The Marshall Foundation is based on the principles of Arthur R. Marshall (1919-1985). Named Conservationist of the Decade in 1985 by the Florida National Wildlife Federation, Art Marshall was a nationally recognized conservationist and crusader for the Florida Everglades. He received the original funding for the Foundation in 1982 from his friend and colleague Marjory Stoneman Douglas, the undisputed “First Lady of the Everglades.” Art’s nephew, John Arthur Marshall, heads the non-profit organization today.

In addition to the River of Grass Gala, the Marshall Foundation sponsors numerous eco-friendly events including an annual Cypress Harvest and up to six tree-planting events every spring throughout Palm Beach County.
